Birkenstock 1774 Is Heading To Washington State

Oct 17, 2024Oct 17, 2024

It's latest collab with Filson is injecting Seattle-style onto three new silhouettes

What comes to mind when you think of Birkenstock? Probably not an outdoor boot. But that’s about to change with the latest collab between the footwear brand and American outdoor-outfitters Filson.

The next brand to partner with Birks’ 1774 line carries a 127-year legacy, first specialising in outfits for the fortune hunters that had come to Seattle for the Great Klondike Gold Rush. While today’s customers aren’t looking to the brand as a uniform for gold mining, their reputation for rustic and reliable garments is primed for a labour-intensive lifestyle.

And so, it’s pushed Birkenstock’s creative vision towards America’s north-west, introducing three new silhouettes for the brand: the London Methow, Lahti and Skykomish.

Crafted with a mix of suede and leather, the London Methow is the low-top offering in the collection, purposefully left unlined so that you can feel the sensation of the earth beneath your feet.

But it’s the latter two designs that really expand on Birkenstock’s repertoire, bringing some Washington-state utilitarianism to the shoes. The Lahti is a soft hunting boot with a collapsible upper made from Filson’s signature Mackinaw wool, while the Skykomish is a rustic calf-grazer with a rubber mudguard for treks and park walks alike. Both designs are fitted with Birkenstock's signature Deep Blue footbed, offering support and comfort for whatever adventures are embarked.

Now there’s a Birkenstock for every task. Need to pop to the corner shop for a pint of milk? Slide on the Boston clogs. Heading to a sun-drench city? Walk and explore in a pair of Arizona sandals. And for earth-grounding endeavours, you know what shoes will suit.

The Birkenstock 1774 x Filson collab will be available from filson.com, 1774.com and select global retailers on October 22nd.
